SP-600 receiver-convert 600 ohm audio output to 8 ohms.

I’ve read that a 120vac to 12vdc transformer could serve between the radio and the 8 ohm speaker. If this is correct, I assume the 120 pri goes toward the receiver? Sorry for the dumb question.

Welcome, no dumb questions. Personally I wouldn’t use a power transformer for an audio circuit. Could it work? Possibly, but there is better matched transformers. Hammond makes 600 to 8 ohm audio transformers for a decent price, that would be my choice (119DA for reference). Additionally, what is the state of the receiver you are wanting to use, has any work been done to it?

Radios + Tubes + Scopes + Cars= Nothing better!

The receiver is functional with an apparent sensitivity issue. I purchased a multi-tap audio transformer but the instructions were not easily deciphered. It’s been an awhile (less than a year) since I tried it and I don’t remember exactly how the problem manifested. I’m taking it to a knowledgeable tube guy in a couple of weeks for him to test the caps as I suspect that is where the problem exists. I wanted to get the correct audio transformer first. But heprobably has a transformer or can figure out what leads we need to use on the one I have. I don’t have a 600 ohm speaker but I suppose getting one is a viable option.  Thanks!
