CBC’s Marketplace had an excellent episode about battery choices… which brands are worth the hype… and which ones are a-okay. Search cbc.ca/news for a 2022 episode, titled Testing Batteries; Battle Of The Dollar Store Giants {unable to give you a direct URL… sorry}… removed link

Duracell should be renamed leakocell as that’s all they’ve ever done for me.

I stopped using them many many years ago.

Energizers? Never had a problem.

Even most Walmart no name brand batteries have been good for the life of the battery.

And I tend to do a lot of restorations on antique clocks were the old AC 110 volt motor has burned up.

Most times the obvious choice is to ditch the AC motor and sub in a clock mechanism from a scrounged (value village or goodwill) used wall clock so it’s important for me not to use batteries that WILL not corrode either before or after it had died.

Duracell often corrode before they are ‘dead’ leaving an antique clock with a corrosive mess inside often for months or years before it is caught..

Avoid Duracell like the plague.

Okay, so here is the spreadsheet of my discharged batteries and also which batteries have leaked.

Interesting chart, this agrees with what I’ve generally found.

Keep in mind that the term “Alkaline Battery” should be the first indicator that the substance is alkaline = made to corrode

But generally, many manufacturers take precautionary measures to insure that their batteries do not leak and wreck you equipment.

I would not put Duracell in that category.

Avoid them like the plague

@moefuzz I have been busy changing out all my batteries to Lithium Batteries and they become cheap not losing my devices and have to replace the units.

I just hope there is no problems with the Lithium Batteries.
