Rules change On MCL's Patreon

I just had surgery yesterday and this is not good news.

No one like change and I understand there are people that have ripped Mr. Carlson.

I have been a member since 2017 and there is project I have wanted to build, but did not load the PDF.

I now regret I did not download those file and not sure what to do now and how to get them.

I am upset, but understand, just forget making and project, maybe just the drugs talking.

I am a new subscriber to Mr C’s Patreon, and I feel the monthly cost is well worth it. (I was hoping to pre-pay for 1 year up front, sadly that is not an option) I believe he has probably had some people sign up for one month, download everything and cancel their Patreon. I do not like the change to the terms of service for the following reason: Mouser/Digikey shipping charges! Now that I can only get the Schematics and parts lists for 1 project/month this means that I will now be spending multiples of Mr C’s Annual Patreon subscription on Digikey shipping. I had planned to make a large order for all of the parts for several projects and build them as time allowed. Perhaps Mr C can make the parts lists available for the projects so we can purchase parts for multiple projects and pay only one shipping charge.

I am sure that this new policy is inconvenient for both Mr Carlson and his patreon subscribers.

Hi Larry. No need to despair. There are some advantages to being a “Legacy Member” All you have to do is get in touch following the instructions in the PDF. I know the inconvenience of the waiting time but…Sometimes we have to adapt and perhaps look at the bright side of things.  🤔 

@wilhelm It would have been nice for us long time Patreon members.

I just looked and it would be 7 years or about 84 months and at two dollars, it would be about $168 dollars.

That would be cheap for his plans.

He said “Only one set of attachments (attachments from one video) is
available per billing cycle.” So it may take awhile to get all the plans.

A problem I am having is I long in with my Facebook account back in the day and I do not know how this rule will work.
” Your e-mail address must match the e-mail you used when you signed up to Patreon”

I guess I should have fixed that back in the day as I was new to Patreon and how to update to a direct log-in.

Not sure what this is. “Attachments for some lessons and videos may only be available at higher Tier levels. 

@ovi4 I agree, it is the pain I am having from the surgery and my fuzzy thinking.

Also the email address problem. Maybe it is the my Facebook username and password is what Patreon is using.

@ovi4 I just found out how to disconnect from Facebook and made a new password…. Yea!

I afraid to log out, I may not get back in….Yikes

@larry_n7luf There is a fairly simple way to find out what is the actual login details if your browser is set to automatically remember your login. Depending on what browser style you are using but usually with Chrome, Internet Explorer, and Brave browsers all login details on all sites you have logins are stored within the browser itself all you have to do is go to the settings menu of your browser and you should find a section (a tab) In internet explorer is called “Phone and other devices” under there you find another tab called Passwords. For Brave and Chrome browsers there is a tab called “Autofill and passwords” So once the password is revealed to you just take a written note of it and that’s it.

@wilhelm Yes it is Paul’s Patreon and people have been ripping him off and maybe a few kinks to work out.

I am sure knowing Paul, he did not want to do this.

I can see tracking all this will be a problem, and I did have a chance to download them all, but did not know they would disappear.
Good think one can still get them all over some time.
I plan to stay around, as I enjoy his videos and look forward for his next one.

Maybe we will see some new stuff soon.

@larry_n7luf Alternatively finding the email used for your Patreon account is easy. just go to the Patreon “Settings” tab and under it there is a tab called ” “Basics” Clicking on it should reveal the user name as well as the e-mail address. (No password there though!)

@ovi4 I use a password manager now for years now.

Patreon accounts had a way to disconnect from Facebook, but had to make a new password.

All is good now and was able to log out and back in with now problems and log-in is now in my manager software.

Sorry for all my rant, it was just bad timing for me.

@larry_n7luf Well, the minute I started the topic I could see it as being a “firey subject” of intense debate that would certainly spark some opinions from all sides (along the way) but the truth deserves to be known sooner rather than later. I wanted to do it that day (when the change happened) but then I thought maybe MCL himself would make the announcement here on this site (at some point). Perhaps he would do it on the next Patreon Video release.

@ovi4 Yes I have been ranting on Patreon using the PM and asked for a video to explain.

I am sure he is waiting to see what everyone views.

I would guess other have done the same, but it was good to show a light to the change here.

It would be nice to have a list of each projects to see what a person might be interested in building.

Without a list, I may miss something I would want to build.

I know we have the list of the videos, but would be nice of each project.

I really do not want to watch all the videos to find a project.
Also not all the parts are available to be found, but maybe they could be updated parts list.
I had hope that he would have project labels like he did for the “Completed Ultra Probe Assembly Instructions!”

@larry_n7luf Well, in my case, I already went more than a dozen times over every single video on Patreon as well as on YouTube, and because of it, I kind of..tend to remember things about every project ever discussed/presented on Patreon quite well, but I agree that for most of the people, (on Patreon) a list of projects to be able to look at and choose from is a great idea. Now, talking about lists and things my brain just “clicked” (remembered) that someone (a Patreon member but cannot recall his user name) back in 2020, I believe in the effort to learn as much as possible and probably to better manage and keep track of all videos and projects ever presented by MCL on Patreon as well as on YouTube has come up with a PDF file that has some “I would say extensive and detailed notes” about everything that was presented up to video 92 (On Patreon List of videos) Also the file contains extensive “depiction” of various interesting YouTube videos concerning the ones presented on Patreon. So, I can see that the person has put some serious amount of work/time into taking detailed notes of everything (up to 2020) He shared (at that time) a link to where to go to download that file and said is to help others to better manage what there is to see and learn from Patreon and YouTube. Now, that was in 2020, and cannot recall where that link was presented, and even if I did I very much doubt that the link would still be valid. But…I so happen that I’ve downloaded that file (back then) and have kept it for later use even though I didn’t need to use it that much. Perhaps and hopefully that person might read my post and show up with a newly updated (April 2024) version of the same file and perhaps share it with the community.
