Timestamp ~22:27. Episode posted April 26, 2026. I’m losing my mind here. Our man Paul (MrCarlson) told us in the episode that the 120VAC supply was wired to the chassis, right? Yes, the FM radio was plugged into a current-limiting, dim-bulb power supply.

Paul told us that he had removed the current-limiting feature and… then was holding the metal chassis! What am I missing here?! Did he do a modification to the FM radio so line voltage and current are not going through the metal chassis? Or am I mixing up the sequence of events of that episode? Please advise, eh.

Hi Scuba-man-1970. At around 4:15 Paul stipulates he will continue to use an isolation transformer during the project i.e. whenever powering this receiver during the repair, testing & alignment. TBH in my country (New Zealand) with our 230Vac/50Hz mains everything tends to be a 3-wire Mains lead & in of the era of vacuum tubes tended to have a hefty lump power transformer plus it was not until tube (“valve”) B&W TVsets became common in the 1960s that such tech relied upon series-ing up the tube filaments so no power transformer by some manufactures. Sure made for a lighter weight appliance way back then!
@peteb2 …I appreciated your response! In a recent episode, Paul (MrCarlson) mentioned that he doesn’t always film every… single… fix and modification he does on a device. QUESTIONS AND QUERY = RESOLVED (…at least enough for me 🙂 ).
