I have been a ham for many years, W5YV. I have been out of the hobby for 15 years but have decided to get back in. We moved to the top of a mountain from low flatland. I am confused on the different youtube videos on station, tower, grounding and bonding. Before I had a 76 foot tower with 3 ground rods. These were bonded to tower legs and each other with large copper cable to ground rod outside my shack. Then from there to a copper buss bar in the shack. Everything was grounded with straps to the bar. At the top of the tower I made a ground rod with around 50 sharp copper wire spikes. I never got hit in 20 years. Now I am getting conflicting information. Will the expert help me with what I should do. My tower going up has ground rods going out three ways. 3 rods on each leg. They connect to a circle around the tower base. The tails will be connected to each leg. All are thermite bonded. One tail goes to a panel where coax goes into the shack. It has a copper plate to mount Alpha Delta protectors. Should I continue in to shack to the ground buss bar inside? Should I connect house ground to the tower ground? Any help thanks.
If you tie the tower into the house ground you might cause a ground loop. I would keep the house ground away from the radio equipment ground, you might pick up some noise from the the house ground too.
