Hello everyone from the lower mainland of B.C. 🙂 I am a total beginner, I bought this frequency counter because I thought it was cool. I wanted to use it for simple beginner projects, but I knew enough from watching Mr Carlson to not just plug it in.
Well life happened and it took me 3 years to build a dim bulb tester! And I have mixed results.
The cooling fan spins, and the display worked unevenly before going out.
A 40w bulb glows unevenly.
A 100w bulb glows steady and dim.
A 300w bulb doesnt glow at all.
None of the components inside are visibly burned or broken, but I’ll try testing and changing the capacitors anyway. I will try to post pictures here after work, or you can Google search the topic title and my old reddit thread will show up. I would appreciate any advice from the experts here 🙂
Just a heads up, if you post any pictures the links will automatically be removed until you’ve posted on the forum a couple of times. This is done to prevent spam.

Welcome, it looks like this is new enough that most of the caps will be perfectly fine to leave alone. Electrolytics in the power supply would be a good idea to go ahead and replace if it will be used regularly. The 100 watt bulb would likely be the best choice for this item, as it wont draw enough for a 300 and the 40 is going to drop too much voltage.
Radios + Tubes + Scopes + Cars= Nothing better!
