Hello! I’m bringing an old Heathkit PS-4 power supply back to life. I have a schematic that I found online however it does not state the wattage of the resistors. There are some that are out of spec I’d like to replace. Unfortunately, I cannot remember the watt rating of an old carbon comp resistor based on it’s physical size.
The large ones are 5/16″ in diameter and 11/16″ long,
The mid-sided ones are about 1/4″ in diameter and 9/16″ long,
And the small ones are 1/8″ in diameter and 3/8″ long.
Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you! 🙂
@scotty Welcome, I would say based on the measurements 1-2 watt at least. It would be better to know the schematic before suggesting values. Try posting the schematic and what resistors we are discussing. Based on where they are in circuit and the values, it is easy to calculate how much load they will need to support. Additionally, how far off are the readings you took? They may not even need to be replaced.
Radios + Tubes + Scopes + Cars= Nothing better!
The schematic I have states that all resistors are 1/2W unless otherwise specified.
The only other two ratings are 1W and 2W.
