Radiola IIIa

Hi everyone! I have a radiola IIIa that I am working on to get it working. I have already order parts to make adapters so that I can use 1q5 tube instead of the rare and expensive wd-11 tubes. My question: none of the transformers appear to be open, but one of the windings (can’t remember if primary or secondary) reads over 15 kilohms. None of the other transformers read that high and the internet would seem to indicate that 15kohms is too high! Any thoughts? Do I have a bad transformer?

Hi, to have 15K ohms seems impossible and certainly is. It sounds like that winding is either faulty or you might have had an improper electrical contact on the testers probe leads contacting the transformers winding such us dust, flux etc. I strongly suggest that you try the measurements with a true tried and tested meter and do it several times just to make sure. If the test result is consistently the same then that winding is basically dead.

I’ll double check the windings tomorrow. Hopefully I won’t have to replace it…

Well, I checked them, and the secondary measures around 12K ohms. Not good. Looks like I’m getting a new transformer…
