Well said Tim, I couldn’t have put it in better words even if I tried. Nice advice for everyone that might get a little “overwhelmed” at times, with to many options or details to consider.
I built the Capacitor Leakage Tester many moons ago and has served me well.
I’d like to put a photo of it but I cannot see how to attach images here 🙄Β

You have to share a link to your picture storage by the rules, as a storage problem here on the forum.
I hope this helps.Β

In case you cannot see the links, be sure the URL is “http”, not “https”.
I have not yet converted my web into https… 🙄Β

@timfly Hello Tim, what was driving me a little crazy was the parts I been looking for are no longer made.
If a replacement part changed how it works and what other changes that would need to be done to make it work.
I guess I am just a kit builder, but I am learning as I have been going.
Just learning how to solder SMD has been a great beginning for me, as I only have done point to point soldering.
I think I have what parts that is needed to come in, I will be up and running.
Thank youΒ

If you’re looking for the LM3915 a local electronics store still have like 15 in stock. They’re $6 each. Let me know if you want me to buy and ship a few. I’m in Sweden and I don’t think the store ships internationally.Β

I’ve just finished PCB of capacitor leak tester, found all the parts on Dogikey and Mooser. LCD driver came in PLCC format which was a pain to solder on – worth getting a socket!Β

@mercuriell I was thinking of a socket implementation as well (some years back) when I’ve built mine but then I thought,Β considering that the socket itself will take some space around the IC and there is also a soldering point in the center and it might need a cutout in the center of the socket itself and also some other near by components might clash with the socket edges etc. Well….I gave up the idea. After all, is a 1 time soldering only since, I don’t expect that to burn anytime soon. But hey…feel free to try it and perhaps share your conclusion with us if you wish. Good luck.
Good job and your good intentions are appreciated but…please, please be carefully before deciding posting certain links/pictures here!. The “Forum Rules” can be found at the bottom of the page (within the black rectangle) in case you haven’t done it as of yet. 👍 Good luck with your build. Now all is left is calibration and final test. 😉Β
@jrkorman you need to host your pictures somewhere where they allow third party hosting and then paste the link into the forum post/reply. It needs to be a direct link to the image with the file extension otherwise the image won’t show in the post even though you can still click the link. Google drive, Facebook, etc, will show up as a link, not an image.Β
If you’re asking “how” I did it:

From my testing the are not necessary in this forum software, just the link. πΒ
