Hi gang, have you noticed the propensity of counterfeit parts (relays, capacitors, resistors etc that seem to be ever increasing here in the states?

I’ve been struggling with the keyless entry for my ’98 Ford van and first go, the repair lasted for three months before another failure.  Is this becoming a worldwide issue?

Aftermarket automotive electrical components are a crap shoot nowadays, best to go O.E.M if available.

Yep. Recently was prototyping something and for ease of purchase bought some 7805 1A regulators from eBay.

After much head-scratching as to why the circuit kept cutting out, I discovered that they were 78L05 (100mA) dies built into the TO220 case!

I too have been burnt buying from eBay and Amazon, buying what were advertised as name brand parts and later had my project continue to fail. Then spending more time testing component by component until finding the problem. What I thought were Nichicon and Panasonic capacitors, turned out to be junk, resistors with measured values not consistent with marked values, fake capacitors, etc.

I will only buy from Digi key, Mouser and RS-online. Been burnt too many times.
