Etching your PCBs & heating plate magnetic stirrers.

I have searched around & have not found a reference to this in the Forum (so i hope i have not started a new topic when there’s already one under way). I recall a few years back within a video of Mr Carlson’s made mention about using a warmed solution of ferric chloride & a heated pad magnetic stirrer unit to give truly improved results. I wonder if anyone recalls the particular video please? I have jumped around everything on laminators to board making but i can’t seem to find the info. It’s possible it’s on the YouTube public available videos but i have no idea where. Any input truly appreciated (i just need to really review options for successful home PCB making)… Thanks Peter

Hi, please consider the following. I believe that they are everything that MCL has presented on YT & Patreon (so far),

regarding the PCB making @ Home   How To’s  as well as some Tips & Tricks:

Patreon:  Video date:  (17 May 2018)    :   ” Fast PC Board Prototyping Tips and Secrets.

Patreon:  Video date:  (16 May 2022)     :   ”Prototyping Circuit Boards Made Easier With This Device!”  (this is the one with the magnetic stirrer !)

@ovi4 Wow! Thanks… yes it’s the video #144 on prototyping pcbs. Wow, i just could not locate it in the list for some very weird reason on my part. (I now have a nice video to watch again for my Saturday evening). I am getting up to speed to making the Dual colour display capacitor leakage tester I found the original tester an absolute hoot at the bench over the years but it has begun giving me problems so the newer version sounds as if it has some advantages. Thanks again for your help…. Peter here in New Zealand 🙂

@peteb2 TIP: leave the J-FET the very last component that you solder on that board. I assume you already know why. 🙂  Good luck with your build.

@ovi4 is that not the JFET needing special soldering used in the Ultra Probe? The Dual colour display capacitor leakage tester is essentially normal transistors albeit with very high gain ?

@peteb2 The dual led cap leakage tester does have one J-Fet also.  (Q10). Taking special care of it is crucial.

@ovi4 oh yes, i was thinking of actual tester section not the display board section (which i guess is part of the testing in a way i guess)! Thanks again for the heads up on JFET handling for Q7.

I ordered all the parts waaay back when Paul 1st released his files & the series on having a dual display but life at the time seriously got in the way so it was all put on hold.

I’m now effectively retired after my now ex-employer essentially out of no where simply pulled the pin suddenly on the business i had been in for my 29th yr. This gives me time to work on the larger Carlson projects (i have already stocked up on parts for).

I’ve even revisited the sort of A3 monster laminator from a couple years ago I was using previously for making toner transfer boards which ended in big problems (its bearings melted with a terrible experience of jammed burning rollers & loads of stinking smoke)!  I have picked up a much smaller practical A4 sized unit that with mods appears to be working well.  Thanks again @ovi4
