How to build electronic parts supplies

In Mr. Carlson’s Patreon “video 130”, about fake parts being good and bad, brings up a question for a new hobbyist started out building their supplies of parts.

There are many Chinese parts suppliersΒ and I would love the pro’s and con’s.

I do not know why, I keep getting messages from Temu for parts.

I have been getting a lot of my parts from Digikey and Mouser and a few other US suppliers, some parts are no longer available.

Maybe be just a pure gamble.

Buying Parts from other than “well-known and reputable” sources is surely a: “Pure Gamble”. There is always that so-called: “temptation” to go cheaper and try to save money thing!. Just imagine if “the-reputable sources” were way cheaper than they currently are, (er…wishful thinking on my part! :))) ) then, everybody would only “ever” buy from them and all other “shady” unknown and likely to be low-quality/fake sources would soon “die out”. But since we all know “this would never happen” the temptation would always exist. So again, you won’t know until you try πŸ˜‰ and when stumble across something good…spread the word around…:)

@sherlockohms I’ve used LCSC about 6 or 7 times in the past and I can confirm that I’ve had a 100% positive experience with them. However, I may say that the variety is not quite there yet as compared with the bigger boys but they seem to adapt and progress very fast. And I’m yet to give “Tayda” a try even though I must admit “never heard of them” before. Your input is much appreciated thank you.

@ovi4 I have bought lots of parts from Tayda, very price competitive. If you are not in a hurry they have a very cheap shipping option along with the big shippers.

One of the big problems I see is that as a small purchaser you don’t have the clout that big buyers do. If the government buys parts, they ask for country of origin or assurances from the suppliers that the parts are not from prohibited suppliers or “gray market”. It is even getting bad with reputable sources. The big thing I look at is how important is the project? If it is exploratory and won’t connect to the outside world I am more open to unknown parts…. I just make sure my fire extinguisher is not “gray market” πŸ™‚

I think you will be impressed by the care in packing your items that TAYDA takes.

They take pride in everything they do.
