Recently, I watched Mr Carlson’s video regarding turn signal flasher for his Olds 88. I have a Model T which doesn’t even have brake lights. So I designed a circuit to accommodate a set of brake lights and rear turn signals. I noticed that Mr Carlson has Shotkey diodes in his design and states that these are for protection. Would that be reverse polarity connection protection? I do not have this in my design. What considerations would be needed to select a diode for this. I’m using a 6 volt battery. Thanks Mike
It has been awhile since I saw that video, but just a guess the Shockey diodes are for reverse voltage spikes to protect some parts.

I understand the shotkeys to ground on the P, L and X leads, but the series Shotkey between the +6 and the 7555 pin 8 is a little confusing, Mike
Well, I finally got the circuit to work as I wanted it to. BUT…. then when I installed it into the car, the Model T’s ignition system made so much noise the 7555 timer would continuously re trigger. After working on the problem for a while, I did get past this problem. I added a couple of Shotkey diodes in the circuit, but they didn’t help much, the main solution was adding resistance ignition wires between the ignition coils and the spark plugs. Apparently most of the noise was radiation noise. Mike
Im not to sure on the diodes but when you make a break a dc current you can have a spike like a arc flow. The swifch would be something to worry about
