After watching some of the soldering tips in Patreon on how to soldering 0402 parts in video #102 I did some practice on a practice board.

Here is some pictures of what I did and do you think I am ready to do some of MCL project with 0402 part?

Larry, it really comes down to are you comfortable with the soldering. If you are worried about the amount of solder you could always use some solder wick to remove excess solder on a joint and redo it. Also, you will get better as you work on these. If you are really worried about it their are soldering pencils made specifically for these types of components. They look like heated tweezers and heat both sides at one.

Good on you for getting in the practice.

@gbfreeman123 I am using the Hakko curved tip like Mr. Carlson has been using and those 0402 parts are about the same size of the tip and not sure if I can get it looking any better.

What solder size are you using.

You need smal diameter solder I use 0.25mm.

When in doubt use a microcontroller.

@wilhelm I am using AIM Solder 60-40 Tin Lead Rosin Core Solder Wire for Electrical Soldering 0.025inch, 1lb (0.6mm / 454g).

Do you have pictures of your 0402 parts?

I am just finding that is the best I can do for those 0402 parts.

If you manage that with 0.6mm you will do just fine with 0.25-0.3mm solder. 0.6mm is for thru hole and larger stuff.

When in doubt use a microcontroller.

@wilhelm When I was looking the .6mm was one of the smallest for 60/40, but now seeing .3mm in 63/37 and lead free.

Leaded is easier to solder than lead free.

When in doubt use a microcontroller.

@wilhelm I agree, I did order 63/37 Rosin Core Tin Lead Solder Wire For Electrical Soldering(0.3mm/50g)
