@wa5jml I had many time to upgrade, and missed the time to do it easy with in the grace period, but had family problems at that time and just did not care.
Yes it is kind of a badge of honor where I am at to just get a small part of a few bands.

If I remember 40 meter I have the full band as an extra.

I will have to check the band chart to see if there has been any change.
Here again maybe so day I will upgrade.

I started out as a child taking apart my parents old electronics components to see how they worked , some may have still been in use , which I got scolded for 🙂 . My father was a automotive mechanic . I worked with him in our home garage from a young age and  got loved the science of it . After alot of mistakes and learning from them I got really good at troubleshooting . During high school years I apprenticed as a mechanic and a shop nearby and kept learning . Years later I wanted to challenge myself and went into autobody/ paint , learned some more there. After getting married and having children I went into carpentry and home renovations ,(which I am still doing for a living) . I love fixing things . Currently working on a old marconi aa5 and building some of Mr C,s designs .

Love this forum and I know I will learn even more from everyone here !

I’ve always been interested in science and engineering, how things worked. Got grounded a few times, while growing up, for taking things apart I shouldn’t have. Learned some electronics from dad who was an engineer at IBM, and from reading various magazines he subscribed to; Popular Science, Popular electronics, ect. During my high school years in the mid 70’s I Built a HeNe laser from off spec. parts I found thru the newspaper mini-ads. I also built a Heathkit AR-14 stereo receiver around then. I still have it stored away and plan to refurbish it when I retire. In college I studied Laser technology, Electronics, Machining, Chemistry, Math, and physics. I guess I was just interested in too many things and never advanced beyond an A.S. degree. Although, I guess I  could say I am exceedingly well rounded in the technologies. Out of school, I worked for an electrician for a couple years installing and repairing energy management systems in supermarkets, then aerospace for several years, and finally (or NOT) the computer hard disk dive industry as a production line support engineer for the past 30 years. I’ve been lucky; my wider than usual skill set has served me well in these positions. I’ve been a member of Paul’s patreon electronics course for a few years now but work and life keeps getting in the way to do more than just watch. Hopefully once I retire in a few years I can get my feet wet. It is fun watching everyone’s projects and I am grateful for the learning. Very hopeful for this forums success. Good luck to all!

@zyxt Hi, Do you know anything about the group of companies in the U.S. experimenting with HF frequencies for high speed trading?

@twisted1 My first job was in an automatic transmission shop.  My Uncle was the traveling instructor for the University of Texas Extension division.  He traveled the state training mechanics on the new versions,   I spent the summers with them and worked as a mechanic while in High school.  I was taking electronics my Junior and Senior year while working on cars after school.

I’ve been working professionally in some form of IT for the past 25 years and have spent about the last 7 focusing on information security. I’m also a HAM and am interested primarily in the digital modes. I’ve always had an interest in electronics and have built a few kits throughout the years. In the past two years I have been focusing more on accelerating my learning as a hobbyist. I have a reasonable starter bench now and I have done a few tube radio restorations. I have spent quite a few hours watching Paul’s videos amongst other learning resources improving my electronics knowledge. I’m very happy that this forum exists, and I’m looking forward to learning more from other enthusiasts.

Cheers,
Jake

Now you are looking at a hole in the ground by the mailbox , what do you want to do?

It is a pathway to the electronic control room to the dam.
