Kenwood Ts-850 noise blanker

I’ve had this rig for a couple years now and the noise blanker never seemed to work. I opened the case figured I would check the obvious. (maybe it’s just unplugged ) . When I purchased it the prior owner told me it was serviced and had the caps that are known to be bad replaced . I also bought new caps and replaced them . To be on the safe side as I plan on using this rig as long as possible .

Anyone have a guess at why it wouldn’t be working ? There is power going to to the blanker but no change in the noise when I pit it into play?

Thanks for any help given

Twisted1:)

Try looking for the caps they changed, broken solder joints, solder blobs, anything else that might not look right (discolored components, etc.) Also worth checking what kind of caps they installed, are they cheap ones that could possibly cause issues? I am not familiar with these specifically, but those are basic checks I would do.

not all ‘noise blankers’ are useful Typically they were made to quieten vehicle noises ..pulses not RF. Even

when workingyou hear no effects maybe other than a slight drop off in level. Why you would replace the

caps beats me as usually they just sit there unused and are quality stuff…but I’d check my work for

incorrect connections or polarity. …which, even if 100% ok,  may not ultimately make any

difference to what you are experiencing For me there is only one way to reduce noise …filters….but then

I work Morse on 250Hz filter…and use IF shift.
