Hello all – I am a recent follower of the YT channel and was curious about something. Do you think with some of the materials available here that I could repair my Adam sub-8? I heard a loud snap one day and realized it wouldn’t turn on. I assume something caused the fuse to blow. What that is, I don’t know. I have built my own equipment from kits etc, but have no knowledge of how to check and fine where the issue might be. Attempts to start a repair out of warranty have been no help whatsoever. Thanks in advance.
Hello, i just stumbled upon your request around working a repair for what i understand is a Subwoofer. I have done a few myself as a now retired career tech but they are it seems all always IP (intellectual property) so no chance of a schematic let alone a service manual. I guess the industry guards their product info with a vengeance! This means it becomes a back-engineering session to actually create your one circuit diagram schematic from the main sections of the PCBs & then it makes it much easier to locate the fault during the fault finding process.
My question then is do you have access to or own any sort of test gear & a few tools? Subwoofers invariably contain a switchmode power supply & these are notoriously hard work to locate the fault in & then to justify how much effort you are willing to pour into it all let alone many use a D-class amplifier which is in itself a sort of switchmode technology as well so in short very “unfriendly” to chase the fault down without experience. Here’s where you need to id the i.c.s/semiconductors & recognize their part code & then do a google to find the parts datasheet that will then give you an idea of what the circuit is doing & i.d. the fault/failure point.
So it can be a lot of effort. One other little thing is that Subs are all sealed up like crazy to prevent them whistling with so much air being pumped so they can a battle to disassemble. With all my somewhat negative warnings the best i can suggest is to remove the screws holding the main panel & lift the panel clear enough to expose the speaker-driver terminals & disconnect it & now study the circuit boards, looking for what let off the ‘crack’ sound. It is possible it was an electrolytic capacitor that failed ie exploded so it will be very obvious… You might get lucky & this is all that needs replacing but that is rare. Finally & i should have mentioned it sooner. YT may well have a video already that will guide you to locating what has failed, & the same fault your sub has succumb to… I wish you luck, these units can be complex for what they are.
