I just bought a BK Precision1655 AC Power Supply. I checked ohms from ground to case of the AC output and I see it is connected. Checked the schematic and it shows that the grounds for both input and output are to chassis of the power supply. For bench work I believe I need to remove the chassis ground from the output side. I think this is the same as issue as the Triplite isolation PS. Just checking to see if I am understanding this correctly. I have been away from electronics work for a long time and this is something I don’t want a dumb mistake. Looking for assurance.
Oh well, I guess I would call my question dumb as I made it to video #149. This product calls itself Isolated-Variable AC Power Supply… but not really. So sorry I asked.
Hi, yes you are right in thinking that an earth should not be used at the output simply because it will indeed defeat the whole idea of having and isolation transformer. For further related details of how to properly build a Dimm bulb/variac/isolation transformer combo unit Mr. Carlson has a nice (old by now) video on YouTube. Here is the link and good luck with your build: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=51mjt9nFoeA&t=30s
@jsmk Your question is valid. I have the Tripp Lite that that needed the ground removed. You are asking questions and that is cool. 🙂
There are no dumb questions when it comes to safety and high voltage. Proceeding with caution, and asking lots of questions has kept me alive with 10 fingers and 10 toes for 46 years. ❤️
