Hi forum members. I have finally finished installing all the new capacitors in my Silvertone R111, chassis 101.615 from 1941. It was a learning experience but with your help, I finally did OK. Now, I have attacked the missing dial string or should I say it has attacked me. I have it threaded on the pulleys and tuning shaft then to the large tuning drum wheel with the eyelet and spring. I am having trouble where the other end of the string is supposed to attach to the large tuning drum wheel. Apparently it is also supposed to be tied to the eyelet and spring. I can not seem to do this without all the rest of the dial cord coming off the pulleys. Perhaps it is because of my 78 year old fingers not being nimble enough. Is there a trick that any of you know or are there any pointers that you can offer. Since no stringing diagrams exist for my model, the closest one I can find is for the Sears Silvertone model R381 which appears to match my pulleys and tuning drum exactly. I am attaching 2 photos. Thanks and kind regards, John

Perhaps you can take some inspiration from here (even though is not the same radio but the same radio ERA):

There is a (downloadable) PDF regarding the dial cord history of lots and lots of radio. It’s worth flicking thru it. Who knows ? Might be your best bet:

Thanks so much for the reply. In the video you recommended, which I had already seen, I never noticed until your message that they attached the final string loop to the spring and not through the eyelet first. This may end up being easier thanks to you you. Regards, John
