Good morning all,
I recently purchased a used 1989 Rodgers 925 organ console who’s transformer started to become SUPER loud yesterday after a few hours of having it turned on. Could this be a sign of a problem. I’ve been told that I should not use the organ with it sounding like this as it could damage it, and the Rodgers dealer close to me won’t help. Any ideas? Attached are some pictures of the PSU and the transformer.

Hi, personally I am not familiar with that piece of equipment but I can surely tell you that since that thing is from 1989 we are talking about nearly 37 years old here !. I would strongly advice you not to use it anymore until it had a complete overhaul and a thorough verification. As it stands if that transformer buzzes loudly it could be anything really. It could even be the transformer itself that started to short itself out (it begins with a couple of turns ) getting itself so hot until a complete destruction and it all ends up with a loud band a lots of smoke ! And this could be because of some electrolytics in the power supply stage and/or anywhere else being too old and having an un-acceptably high ESR which in turn acts as a resistors across the supply rails and/or who knows what else could be wrong with it. So, be extremely cautious!
PS: the picture attachments do not work if this is your very first post. You are going to need to post those once again on your next post here and in theory this time it should work 🙂
