I recently purchased an old Oscilloscope with many of these caps and read that on one hand they are sought after by guitar amp builders, and on the other hand I need to replace them before I get brain cancer.
Is there a specific type of capacitor that they need to be replaced with or will any cap matching the specs do?

I would think a good film cap should make an excellent replacement unless their used where thermal stability is an issue, think time base oscillator.
Far be it from me to keep you from separating a fool from his money, but I’d bury those caps in the desert, never to be put into a chassis again.
