What are people using as their image hosting service to post pictures to a forum post? Just thought we could give each other some tips.Β
I’ve been using Imgur mostly and I think it works fine. If you sign in you can keep your images private, etc (I think you can upload pictures even without signing up).Β You can also choose when you generate your link if you want to share it full size or smaller, even thumbnail sized.Β
A picture of an old transformer with a tube rectifier as an example.Β
Nice, Thank you

Someone here used & suggested imgur.com also some have used Facebook to do it. Google Drive and DopBox are other viable options but basically any cloud based picture/video/document hosting service should do the trick providing the potential viewer doesn’t get “forced”Β to open an account with them just to see someone’s picture.

I have had this problem.
Also make sure General access allows Anyone on the internet with the link can view.

Drive, FB and DropBox works but the problem is that you won’t see the image in the forum post, you have to click the link. Using Imgur the image will show in the post.Β

That is true as well. no doubt. Having said that, one question struck my mind. What if someone wants to rather show a short footage video (say a device in action, or a defect when while is happening ) as opposed to a static picture ? Would that video be visible and be playable directly on this site or, perhaps would Imgur (in this case) just give you a clickable link and still redirect you to their site ? It would be nice to know.
@mandelstam EDIT:Β my bad, I only just realized that apparently Imgur is Pictures only. Sorry… 🤥
I am concern the posting of some pictures that shows pictures of the workings of MCL project, like circuit boards or drawings.
I want to show my etching of a PCB might be not allowed, but again maybe not.
I worry about the gray area that might not be allowed.
Maybe finished project only and keep all other within Patreon.

For video I think youtube is the best hosting service. Most forum softwares will play it inside the post without having to leave the forum, but not sure about this particular software.Β

“Larry: Well, that was what I’ve tried to emphasize earlier on a post with a questionable picture but maybe since Patreon seems to continually do changes in the way the site is managed and compartmented although they didn’t do a great job so far (I’m hoping, maybe, just maybe) there will be a way in the future to still post pictures within MCL’s Patreon channel so we aren’t breaking the rules here. Just a little hope from my part. 😶Β

I think MCL will have the final say but if you show a small detail of an etching and not the complete and populated board it’s not really possible to reverse engineer it. But I hope we will have a members only section where we can share MCL projects more openly. π
Β
Well, that would (I would say) be greatly welcomed by the whole community here but….from the security’s point of view…..we shall see what MCL thinks and might come up with, in the end.
@mandelstam I agree, and I just PM Paul regarding some of my posting.
People do not really realize the wealth of information he has on Patreon.
I encourage every become a Patreon member, as I have been a member since the beginning in 2017 to help him make more videos both on YouTube and Patreon.
Over the years I did not built anything until now, as they say never to late.

@larry_n7luf I’ve watched and followed Paul for years as well and it’s not until now I’ve started to slowly build up a little lab to be able to build things. So I think we’re kind of in the same boat! π It’s a fun journey!
