I Want to post a question about some ceramic body capacitors and without a picture of the component it will be hard to get an answer.Β
You can add pictures, just use a picture host as mentioned in the rules. When you upload your pictures to say… for example: Imgur, you are provided a link to paste in the forum text box, just paste the link and your image is here.
@mrcarlsonslab Thanks! I’ll use google Drive.
I understand why you probably don’t want to deal with images (storage size and possible abuse maybe?), but I think it’s a mistake, since the images will (100% guaranteed) be gone (broken links) a few years into the future, and then the usefulness of this forum goes down. Also, it’s not so user friendly to have to click links just to see the images instead of viewing them inline.
The storage can be solved (partly at least), by limiting the size of the images people would upload. Make sure the are re-scaled and down-sampled.
The abuse part shouldn’t be too bad if you require a verified login to upload the images.

… not to mention there’s probably an AI algorithm that will auto weed out non-applicable images π

Tricky issue. Common sense tells me MCL (shorthand, for MrCarlsonsLab yes?) wants this forum to remain sleek and svelt… so images are stored on other servers. I get unlimited image storage on my Amazon Prime account… meh, I’ll keep the files and link them to a public subfolder.
Headfi.org allows users like me to upload all kinds of images. I wonder what’ll happen with those terabytes of data over time? Eeek. 😬Β

@rbond Agreed! I stumbled back here to the Forum for a somewhat extended break. I can certainly vouch for images linked to as most certainly becoming broken links within a short period. It’s an aspect of the internet as it evolves. I’ve in the past placed detailed procedure instructions on making a repair to a common piece of equipment & included plenty of i thought helpful images but within eight months… all image links were dead. Essentially a waste of time & effort. I also respect the fact that storing images can become quite expensive in the current sort of systems models being offered. There needs to be a better way but for myself i unashamedly have no solution.
