Nice Job. An FR-301 is on my list of purchases this year (at some point). Tnx for sharing.
@ovi4 Are you looking at the FR-301-03 or the 100 volt FR-301-81? The 100 volt model is about half the cost, I plug mine into a variac set to 100 volts and it works dandy!
@rs-electron the 230V unit, I’m after but…good to know Tnx for the idea. So if I were to go for the 100V version (I assume would be the Japanese version of it as in Japan they use 100V only as far as I recall) what online retailers would have that unit for 1/2 the price?
Makes me wonder if the 100V ones would withstand 120V or if there is a tap on a transformer.

@sreaves I believe that such units do not have any transformers whatsoever. They are way too small to be able to accommodate one in a hand-held unit. it must be some “switch-mode” power supply (I suppose). For 12Vac you might have to make a custom 1: 0.9 ratio (isolation type) transformer or// some other way to somehow get rid of the 20Vac that you don’t want.
Sorry, I meant 120Vac not 12Vac but could no longer edit my post (I went past that time threshold in which you’re still allowed to edit your post). I think that the EDIT window is no more than 3-4 minutes. After that, you’re out of luck. Unfortunately, you just have to write a new post.
