If you are interested in how the Navy approaches power supplies, google NEETS modules and look at Module 6—Electronic Emission, Tubes, and
Power Supplies. The entire series is 24 volumes and is updated periodically. Module 19 is called the technicians handbook and has a ton of acronyms, formulas, component identification info, etc

Another source from the Navy:

Transistorized Low Voltage Regulator Circuits and Design 371 1968

“John H. Rogers
Simplified design equations and circuits are presented for
three separate transistor voltage regulator circuits covering
the range of 2 to 30 volts. Examples of design, use of equations,
selection of components and performance data are
presented. An appendix is included to show the use of recent
integrated circuit (I. C.) voltage regulators.”

One can search the title to find the pdf from a gov info site.
