Power washing electronic equipment

There is a youtube electronic repair channel that uses a power washer to deep clean electronic equipment like stereo receivers and then bakes the equipment out. It looks like the equipment always survives this. Is power washing really a safe  way to clean?

Hi, I know the channel you’re on about. This was done for pure satire. It was something he got from a thrift shop and when he removed the cover the electronics were covered in nicotine and 40 years of muck and cat hair. But, I too was surprised that he managed to get it working again after taking such a pounding and baking.

Late reply but interesting topic. I would say it depends on what is underneath the dirt. Solid state stuff with no delicate parts shouldn’t mind it. Of course being mindful of pressure. Something with coils and more fragile components wouldn’t appreciate that treatment. However Tek washed equipment back in the day with a similar method, just lower pressure so it can be done.

Radios + Tubes + Scopes + Cars= Nothing better!
