Greetings,

have a Yamaha YST-SW216 sub woofer. Almost instantly blows fuse. Yamaha tech seems to think is common problem: Amplifier. How tocheck this. Identify amp  , isolate it and test,Module repair tech in Navy, so do have some experience. Limited test equipment. A simple meter. No o-scope. Then where to get part. Sorry for long explain. Love the videos miss digging in to circut boards. Used lots of transistors back then . Had integrated circuits but couldn’t remove them . Thanks , Mike

@longsail Welcome, lucky for you this should be a fairly simple job. Being that the fuse is blowing consistently, means it is likely a power supply or say the outputs are shorted etc. That means you should be able to look for failed components or shorts with your meter, nothing special needed. Once the issue is found, just a matter of getting parts and replacing. Depending on what you need, it should be mostly easy finding a suitable replacement that you can get currently available. Just use common sense when testing of course.

Radios + Tubes + Scopes + Cars= Nothing better!

Mike:

If the fuse blows, You could have a problem with the output amplifier or transistors in the sub woofer, Take it apart and start eliminating the possible suspects.
