does any one have any opinions on the tec 422 i was given one and id like to get it fixed up its ben in storage for ages in fact the latches holding the cover on are frozen so i have some work to even look at it . im thinking this is not a good beginer project but i have several other older units to skill up on .
I found a lot of info and pictures here: https://w140.com/tekwiki/wiki/422#/media . I don’t have one myself.
Try to clean fixed switches with IPA. Apparently transistors are on sockets, you may have to check these too for bad contacts.
You may need to replace some or all electrolytic capacitors…
@paulvo this unit is a hybrid it does have some tubes in it aswell but need to studdy up some more. thanks for the info.
Also note that the majority of tektronix scopes use silver solder (2-3% silver content) on many of the joints. If you see ceramic switch wafers and component mounting strips these require silver solder as the ceramic is primed with silver. Don’t use regular 60/40 solder as this will cause joint failures. Good luck with your restoration.
@dave1956 good tip I do think I saw something about this in one of mr. C’s videos.
