Hi, assuming that you are a “current and active Patreon member” and have access to the much needed info : As far as I know BC 517 is a Darlington transistor with a huge HFE (in the order of 30.000) and is intended in projects where a huge current gain is needed but it needs a high Collector current (to begin with) in order to achieve this HFE therefore (in my opinion) it is not the correct part to use. You either need to provide/use the exact same part number or at least a 2N5088 but if you cannot find it then there is always the option to purchase the SMD style package transistor of the original part (the MMBT family: MMBT5963 and/or MMBT5962). My advice to you is you if go back to the Patreon website at the cap leakage project (variant) you are currently trying to build and/or fix and scan/read (thoroughly !!!) all current and especially the past comments and there are quite a few of them !, people are/were talking about either replacements or sourcing of that transistor and those comments will certainly lead you to the final conclusion. Also it is highly recommended that you watch (again thoroughly) all videos that belong to that very same project of yours for clues and I’m pretty sure you’ll get the hint of what to do. PS: I cannot stress enough that paying close attention to every single detail within those videos as well as reading all comments (regardless of how insignificant or out of context they might appear to be) is “the very key fact” to a successful project such as this one. Good luck.
